An Error Message Asks to Send an Error Report (Online Crash Analysis (OCA))
What are Send / Don't Send error messages?
When using Microsoft Windows, your PC or software application may stop responding and display one of the following error messages prompting you to send an error report to Microsoft:

Figure 2: Software error message (in this case, Internet Explorer)
To see the error report details, click the click here link on the error message window.

Either message provides a Send Error Report button, which sends the error report to Microsoft over the Internet.
This Windows error reporting feature is part of the Microsoft Online Crash Analysis service (OCA). When sending an error report to Microsoft, it is sent anonymously. The information is shared with Microsoft partners, including HP, driver vendors, and application vendors to improve the stability and reliability of your computer.
Listed below are steps HP recommends to minimize the reoccurrence of these error messages:
Step 1: Submitting Send / Don't Send error reports to Microsoft when prompted
HP recommends sending an error report whenever requested. By submitting error reports to Microsoft, HP is made more aware of current issues and will work with partners to minimize how often these errors occur.
To learn how to enable or disable error reporting, refer to the Microsoft support article How To Configure and Use Error Reporting in Windows XP (in English).
Step 2: Downloading and installing an update if available
A response that provides a solution or update may appear after sending an error report to Microsoft.
If a response from Microsoft is not received on a specific error, do not stop sending error reports for future error messages. Each error can be caused by different circumstances. To reduce future error messages, use the troubleshooting steps in Step 3.
If you receive a response with an update, download and install the update to address the issue.

CAUTION: If the update is a System BIOS update, HP recommends backing up important files before attempting to update the BIOS.
Step 3: The Issue still occurs after updating or no responses were returned
If the symptoms continue to occur even after applying the update, use the following tips to help in troubleshooting:
Remember what you were doing at the time of the crash. For example, does the issue occur all the time or intermittently while:
using a specific device?
using a specific software application or playing a certain game?
performing a specific task within a particular software program?
browsing the internet (telephone modem, cable modem, or DSL modem)?
connecting or using new hardware devices?
using a wireless network?
entering or returning from standby or hibernate while certain software programs are open?
having too many software programs open at one time?
installing or using a particular driver or application from the Internet?
Watch for scenarios that may cause the PC to become unstable and avoid them as much as possible until you are able to install an update to resolve the issue.
Install the latest driver, software, and security updates.
Driver and software related:
Install the latest critical updates, security updates, and driver updates using Windows Update . HP recommends that you visit Windows Update once a week.
Install the latest driver and software updates for an HP or Compaq product from the HP Support Web site . Visit the HP Web site regularly for the latest updates.
If an accessory or attached device is not from HP, check the device manufacturer's Web site for the latest updates.
When installing new devices on your PC, install one device driver at a time and make sure everything works before installing the next device.
Temporarily remove any changes made (uninstall hardware or software recently added or roll back drivers to the previous version) to see if the issues go away.
Security software related:
Make sure antivirus and antispyware software are current and working correctly.
Do not install software and drivers from companies and Web sites not known or trusted.
Visit HP Personal Computing Security Center Web site .
For updates on individual error reports, visit the Microsoft OCA Error Report Status page (in English and requires a valid Microsoft passport). You may want to bookmark this Microsoft OCA Error Report Status page if you visit often.
